Where’s the love for Cech?
Drogba was indeed the hero for Chelsea last night against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, but it’s a bit of a stretch to say his brilliant performance helped steer Chelsea to the win.
Chelsea got incredibly lucky. Munich squandered chance after chance. Through 90 minutes, the German squad had upwards of 25 chances and 8 (or so) corner kicks. Chelsea had 6 chances (3 on net, including Drogba’s header goal) and 1 corner kick (the scoring play).
And just as quickly as Drogba became the English team’s hero, he was their zero, tripping a Munich player from behind in the box in the early minutes of the 30 minute extra time period. Had that PK been good and Chelsea had lost, we’d be hearing about how poorly Drogba and Chelsea played, barely geting a shot on net and throwing the game away on a dumb penalty.
Instead, the PK was saved, luckily, and Chelsea held off Munich for another half-hour and defeated them in penalties, Drogba cooly placing the last one in the net for the win.
The real hero of the game? Petr Cech, Chelsea’s keeper, who saved two penalty kicks (among many other impressive stops) and was lucky enough to have one PK bounce off the post and not deflect into the net off his back. More luck, but certainly Cech was more responsible for Chelsea’s incredible upset of Bayern Munich than Mr. Drogba.

Manning’s about to go wild in Denver.
So, Randy Moss is a 49er!
I’m excited and worried at the same time…we all know how self-destructive he can be and how his attitude can be corrosive to a team.
But we needed a WR. So let’s hope we got him for cheap and that he’s got game speed (and not just track speed).
Go Niners!
Moss is undoubtedly one of the best receivers to play the game, ever. BUT, something tells me Moss 2012 in SF will look a lot like Ochocinco 2011 in NE.
Phoenix billboard calls out to Peyton Manning.
Colts have released Peyton Manning. He’s a free agent now. Sweet jesus!
Jon Stewart: You are running for Senate in Massachusetts, you are in New York right now. Who is a better quarterback, Tom Brady or Eli Manning?
Elizabeth Warren: I hate to tell you this but Tom Brady is gonna… the Pats are gonna spank the Giants.
J: Nooooo!!!
E: Yes! We’re gonna getcha. I’m sorry it’s just reality.
J: It’s just reality. Aren’t you supposed to waffle on that a little? Don’t you know anything about being a politician yet?
E: Nope. I know nothing.
J: You’re supposed to go, “Well, I respect the Giants greatly, but…”
E: But I don’t! It’s the Pats all the way.
J: “Eli Manning has leprosy!”
I sucked pretty bad today, but our defense saved us.
My mom talks smack on Billy Cundiff!
He’s like Dez Bryant with brain cells.
Unbelievable photo by Homer McFanboy from pre-game introductions. Yes, Rex was literally brushing his shoulder off!

Detroit Lions tight end Tony Scheffler’s end zone celebrations are among the worst in the league, which really means, they’re the best.
In case you missed it this week versus the Carolina Panthers, Scheffler paid homage to that annoying AT&T Flash Mob commercial.
We Are!
Man, all of the afternoon/evening games this week look to be no contest. The most interesting matchup, I think, is San Diego at the Jets. Worst matchup? Denver at Miami - the teams are a combined 1-9. BUT, Tim Tebow - he’s my QB this week with Brady on a bye.
Yippie kay-yay, Mother Theresa!
This was a painful loss. My team is on the left.
The key decision that cost me this match was starting Donald Driver over Antonio Brown. Hindsight is 20/20, but man that was a noodle scratcher of a decision.
On the one hand, you’ve got Donald Driver, a veteran wideout on a powerful Green Bay team that has so many weapons. They were playing in Atlanta against a terrible pass defense, so one would expect Rodgers to spread the ball around with no problem.
On the other, Antonio Brown, who has played well as Roethlisburger’s #2 receiver, but many questions surrounded the Steelers in this game. Big Ben had an injured foot, his offensive line was dealing with injuries to an already porous line, and Tennessee’s defense looked as good as any other.
So it came down to, do I start the 5th best guy on a team that is likely to explode offensively, or the guy who is doing okay on a team that looks like it could struggle?
I went with Driver and the Packers did do well offensively. Rodgers hit over 10 receivers, but only Driver once. 1 point. Damn. Meanwhile, the Steelers played surprisingly well, shutting down the Titans on defense and getting solid offense, contrary to what some predicted. Plus I forgot that Brown returns punts, and he had a solid return in this game. There goes 8 points I could have won with.
In the end it was Robbie Gould’s 9 point kicking effort that provided the loss. Embarassing.
But there were other things, like Cincinnati’s defense scoring a touchdown on the last play of the game because Jacksonville did the end-of-game lateral fest that concluded in a fumble for touchdown. I would have won without that play. Argh. I also lost Mike Tolbert to a concussion and who would have thought Percy Harvin would barely see any targets against Arizona.
Next week I have some key players on bye weeks, so I’m making some moves but I could lose again. I’m 4-1 now and tied for first in my division. I would like to avoid losing next week too but it is by far my weakest week because of byes.
